'No Stigma Attached' at WVNCC

“No Stigma Attached,” a special Lunch’n’Learn Series on Mental Health, will be held throughout the new academic year on the Wheeling campus of West Virginia Northern Community College.

The first session, Suicide Prevention, presented by Jamie Coen Pickens, will be conducted from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the B&O Building auditorium. The series is open to the public along with students, faculty and staff from Northern. To RSVP, or to receive more information, call 304-214-8923 or email asc@wvncc.edu. These events are offered through the college’s Academic Support Center.

Subsequent presentations all will begin at noon in the B&O auditorium. Series topics include the following:

Tuesday, Oct. 11, Bi-Polar Disorder, by Dr. Mike Marshall; Thursday, Nov. 10, Sexual Abuse, Virginia Loew-Shelhammer; Tuesday, Dec. 6, Eating Disorder, Nancy Georges; Wednesday, Jan. 25, PTSD-EMDR, Dr. Robin Muir; Tuesday, Feb. 21, Substance Abuse, Northwood; Thursday, March 23, Depression, Amy Gamble; Wednesday, April 12, Anxiety, Aileen Mansuetto.

The series was arranged by Kevin Serig, student disabilities counselor. His supervisor, CJ Farnsworth, who is director of academic student support services, said, “Kevin has put together an impressive series of speaking events and we are looking forward to sharing information about these very important, and very prevalent, issues within our community.”
