Application Instructions

To begin your application, read the information below.  Then click on the corrrect 'BEGIN APPLICATION' link above for your appropriate area. There is no application fee for this degree seeking application.

General Admission Policy
West Virginia Northern Community College subscribes to an "open door" admission policy. The college admits as a "regular" student anyone who has a high school diploma or the equivalent, and as a "special" student anyone else who can benefit from college instruction.


Admission Procedures

The following items are to be submitted by degree and certificate seeking students:

  • The online degree seeking application
  • High school transcript and/or GED™/TASC scores (Applicants who graduated from high school or passed their GED™/TASC more than 5 years prior to admission and/or have earned 30 or more semester hours of credit at a regionally accredited institution are exempt from this requirement.)
  • Home-schooled students must submit written verification of subject mastery.
  • International students are admitted as full-time students and must demonstrate satisfactory command of English language, provide evidence of sufficient support funds, and meet standard expectations of the U.S. Immigration Office.
  • Standardized placement scores, if available.
  • Official transcripts from all postsecondary educational institutions previously attended, sent directly from the Registrar's Office of the previous institution(s).
  • If born after January 1, 1957, first-time applicants who plan to be full-time students must submit proof of immunization for rubella and measles.

Limited Enrollment Programs

Some Allied Health programs have limited enrollment.  Candidates must submit a special application and service fee. All appropriate records from high school, previous colleges, and standardized placement scores must be received in the Admissions Office before the application is reviewed. Early application is highly recommended. See individual program webpages for details.

Allied Health applicants for the limited enrollment programs of Radiography, Surgical Technology, Clinical Medical Assisting, and Health Information Technology need to complete the Allied Health Application Radiography & Surgical Technology Application or the Allied Health 1+1 HIT & Medical Assisting Application. Nursing applicants will complete the Nursing Application.

Allied Health applicants for the limited enrollment programs of Radiography, Surgical Technology, Clinical Medical Assisting, and Health Information Technology will need to attend one of the scheduled zoom sessions, or meet with the program director in order to receive the application.

Selective Admissions Programs
Substance Abuse Intervention Programs require a separate application, learn more about the Substance Abuse Intervention Specialist, A.A.S. and Substance Abuse Intervention Technician, C.A.S. programs and apply from the program page.

Financial Aid

Northern offers eligible students federal and state financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Don’t wait, file your FAFSA today.

Apply for Scholarships
You can also apply for scholarships, money that does not have to be repaid, to use for educational expenses.

Northern awards thousands of dollars in scholarships every year.  By completing one Northern Scholarship Application you will be considered for dozens of scholarships.  Awards may be based on cumulative grade point average, financial need, number of credit hours, or specific program.  The priority application deadline for scholarship awards is March 1 for the next academic year. 

Veterans
Veterans planning to receive their Veteran Educational Benefits should contact West Virginia Northern Community College's Veteran Certifying Official at veterans@wvncc.edu to complete the necessary paperwork.
