WVNCC Launches New Respiratory Therapy Program on its Wheeling Campus
Posted 05/22/26
West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is proud to announce the launch of a new Respiratory Therapy program beginning this fall on its Wheeling campus. The program was developed to address the growing demand for skilled respiratory therapists in the Ohio Valley and surrounding regions.
Respiratory therapists are vital members of the healthcare team, working with patients who have difficulty breathing due to chronic respiratory diseases, emergency conditions, or critical illness. The need for trained professionals in this field has increased significantly in recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Healthcare providers across our region continue to experience workforce shortages, especially in specialized areas like respiratory therapy,” said WVNCC President Dr. Daniel Mosser. “This new program allows students to train locally for a high-demand, life-saving career while helping meet a critical community need.”
The Respiratory Therapy program will provide students with hands-on clinical training, classroom instruction, and laboratory experiences designed to prepare graduates for careers in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Students will train using industry-standard equipment and gain practical experience through clinical placements with regional healthcare partners.
The first cohort will begin in Fall 2026 at the Wheeling campus. Applications are now being accepted, with a deadline of July 30. Prospective students must obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to the start of the program, which is a one-day course offered at WVNCC.
Accreditation Statement: West Virginia Northern Community College is currently in the process of seeking CoARC accreditation for the Respiratory Therapy program. However, WVNCC can provide no assurance that accreditation will be granted by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy (CoARC).
