WVNCC to hold Commencement May 10 at WesBanco Arena

West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) will celebrate the success of their students during their 47th Commencement on May 10, 2019, at 7 p.m. at WesBanco Arena. Three hundred and twelve students are eligible to graduate and will be receiving certificates or associate degrees. Robert J. Dobkin, a former WVNCC graduate, will deliver the commencement speech. Bianca White is WVNCC’s 2019 Valedictorian.

Robert DobkinIn addition to speaking at commencement, Dobkin will also be presented the Distinguished Alumni Award by WVNCC Interim President, Mike Koon. Dobkin, a native of Wheeling, graduated from WVNCC with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Psychology in 2010. While at Northern he was a Student Governor Senator, the student representative for the Board of Governors and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Dobkin graduated from Wheeling Jesuit in 2012 with a degree in Organizational Leadership and in 2016 he graduated from the School of Law at Duquesne University. Dobkin worked as an Associate Attorney at Dickie, MacCarney & Chilcote, P.C. and is currently a Trust Officer with WesBanco Trust and Investment Services. He is a Board Member at Youth Services System, Inc., Grand Vue Park Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He is a recent graduate of Leadership Wheeling.

Bianca WhiteWhite, WVNCC’s valedictorian, is a student on the New Martinsville Campus and is graduating with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing. She was born in Germany and went on to become a paramedic as a Staff Sargent in the German Air Force. White immigrated to the United States in 1998, obtaining her citizenship in 2009. White graduated from Washington State Technical Adult Training Program in 2012, earning a certificate as a Medical Assistant and worked as a Medical Assistant in Marietta until 2016. White earned a certificate in Patient Care Technician before being accepted into Northern’s Nursing program. White is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

During the ceremony, Koon will welcome the graduating class and then WVNCC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jill Loveless, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies. WVNCC student and local musician, Matt VanFossen, will perform during the ceremony.
