2026 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award Nominations



  • The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates of West Virginia Northern Community College who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, leadership, and service to their communities while reflecting the values and impact of their Northern education.

    WVNCC Distinguished Alum Criteria:

    • Graduate of the College - Must be a graduate of West Virginia Northern Community College, having completed a degree, certificate, or workforce credential.
    • Professional Achievement - Demonstrates outstanding accomplishments or leadership in their chosen profession, trade, or industry.
    • Community Involvement & Impact - Actively contributes to their community through volunteerism, civic engagement, or public service.
    • Advocacy for Education - Supports education, particularly community college education, through mentorship, public support, or active involvement in education-related initiatives.
    • Connection to the College - Maintains a strong, positive connection to WVNCC.
    • Inspirational Story or Journey - Overcame obstacles, broke barriers, or otherwise serves as an inspiration to current and future students.
    • Leadership & Integrity - Demonstrates strong ethical standards, leadership skills, and personal integrity in professional and personal life.
    • Willingness to Participate - Is able and willing to attend commencement and be recognized publicly. Virtual participation via video is also acceptable.
